Elective Module: Environmental Economics – Making Research Tangible!

Are you interested in environmental, climate and sustainability issues? Would you like to understand how economic analysis can help address global environmental challenges? Then this elective module is for you.

The course features five lectures by national and international guest speakers who will present their current research projects in environmental economics. The lectures cover key topics in the field and provide insights into modern empirical methods, current research papers and their policy implications. Throughout the course, you will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the presented research directly with the speakers.

The module is particularly aimed at students in Economics: Data Science and Policy (Issues in Economic Policy I) and European and International Economics (Research Aspects of European and International Economics II).

As part of the assessment, you will prepare a presentation on a research paper that is thematically related to the seminar topics. This will allow you to deepen your understanding of environmental economics, strengthen your presentation skills and engage critically with current academic research.

Take this opportunity to explore environmental economics first-hand, gain new perspectives on sustainability challenges and actively engage with current research and policy debates on sustainable economic development.

PhD Workshop on Empirical Microeconomics

The PhD Workshop on Empirical Microeconomics – Advances in Causal Inference Methods successfully kicked off the summer semester, bringing together around 35 participants. The event offered an engaging platform for presenting and discussing causal research in applied microeconomics. The diverse range of presentations led to lively discussions and were enriched by constructive feedback from the discussants. The keynotes by Kamila Cygan-Rehm (TU Dresden) and Martin Huber (Université de Fribourg) were a particular highlight. Poster presentations and 1:1 sessions also promoted the scientific exchange. Many thanks to all the participants for their active contributions and for creating such a great atmosphere during the workshop.
